LA Galaxy and MLS Launch 2024 MLS Cup Legacy Project in After-School Programming
The LA Galaxy, in collaboration with MLS, has kicked off the 2024 MLS Cup Legacy Project with the unveiling of a refurbished safe space at the East Side Riders Bike Club community center in Huntington Park. This initiative aims to provide a conducive environment for children to engage in after-school activities, promoting education, creativity, and health.
Galaxy Legends and MLS Executives Unveil Project
Galaxy legends Robbie Keane and Cobi Jones, alongside Jan Mirman, senior vice president of MLS Community Engagement, Tom Braun, president & COO of LA Galaxy, and John Jones III, president & co-founder of East Side Riders Bike Club, were present at the unveiling ceremony. The renovated room now boasts fresh paint, shelves, and LA Galaxy branding, enhancing the space for approximately 500 children who will benefit from the after-school programming.
Empowering Youth Through Sports
Recognizing the importance of providing a safe outlet for children after school hours, East Side Riders Bike Club plans to establish its first youth soccer team. The collaboration with the Galaxy and MLS will see the provision of equipment to support this initiative, offering local children the opportunity to engage in organized sports and develop essential teamwork skills as an alternative to risky behaviors.
Commitment to Community and Goodwill
As an original MLS club, the LA Galaxy have a long-standing commitment to giving back to their local community. Through the 2024 MLS Cup Legacy Project, the club aims to continue its philanthropic efforts alongside MLS, reinforcing the league’s dedication to making a positive impact in the communities where it operates. The East Side Riders Bike Club, which currently benefits 20-25 children daily, will receive a $10,000 donation as part of the project to further support its after-school programming.
In a world where children face various challenges and temptations, providing them with a safe space to learn, grow, and play is crucial. The LA Galaxy and MLS have taken a proactive step in addressing these needs by refurbishing the East Side Riders Bike Club community center. Through initiatives like the 2024 MLS Cup Legacy Project, the power of sports and community involvement shines bright as a beacon of hope for the youth. Let’s continue to support such endeavors and make a difference in the lives of children across our communities.
