With his sights set on his next trip in June, which will practically coincide with the tenth anniversary of his abdication, King Juan Carlos left Galicia this afternoon for Geneva, where he intends to spend a few days with Infanta Cristina. The private plane in which the King’s father is traveling took off after 5 in the afternoon from the Santiago de Compostela airport, the same one in which he landed last Tuesday because his usual destination, the Vigo airport, is closed for plays. During the five days that King Juan Carlos has remained in Galicia there has been more land than sea; The bad weather conditions have prevented him from participating in the regattas but he has resumed gastronomic excursions to renowned restaurants in the area.

The King’s father’s new trip to Spain is scheduled between June 12 and 16, a significant date. On June 18, it will be 10 years since the abdication ceremony of King Juan Carlos and, the following day, the tenth anniversary of the proclamation of Felipe VI will be institutionally celebrated; Although the presence of King Juan Carlos at official events is not planned, it is not ruled out that he participates in some type of private and family celebration.

Little by little, King Juan Carlos is managing to normalize his visits to Spain and make his stays, mainly in Galicia, more and more discreet.

The regattas that, since March, have been held every month in Sanxenxo are the excuse that allows King Juan Carlos to plan his increasingly frequent visits to Spain. They are the excuse because neither in March nor in April has he managed to participate in the nautical test as a crew member of the Bribón. Although in recent times he has improved his physical shape, the weather conditions have not allowed him to get on board.

Nor has it done so this weekend, which was the third test of the eight series of regattas of the Spanish 6M league, the category in which the Bribón competes, a sailboat of which the King’s father has served as skipper. in recent years. Last Friday, King Juan Carlos went out to follow the regatta aboard an auxiliary boat, on Saturday he stayed at home and yesterday Sunday he returned to the sea with Infanta Elena who traveled to Sanxenxo to spend the weekend with her father.

But not everything has been sea and regattas in the five days that King Juan Carlos has spent in Sanxenxo. On Wednesday, together with his host Pedro Campos and other friends, he went to O Grove to share a seafood platter at the D’Berto restaurant and, in addition, he took food to enjoy at home. On Thursday the gastronomic excursion took him to Moaña to taste the typical steak at A Taberna de Lino. On Saturday, dinner was at the Sanxenxo yacht club, together with the Campos couple, the Infanta Elena and her niece Victoria de Borbón-Dos Sicilias who came with her son Pedro López-Quesada who is taking his first course at the Naval Academy of Marin.

Waiting for the weather to improve, King Juan Carlos intends to compete in the Bribón on his next trip. The 4th series will be held between June 14 and 16, where the League will continue the preparation for the Spanish Championship, which will be held in Sanxenxo at the Rey Juan Carlos/El Corte Inglés Master Regatta between September 27 and 30 , and for the subsequent European Championship between October 1 and 5.
