360 degree turn in the politics of Caldes d’Estrac (Maresme) after the latest results of the Municipal Elections. The two parties that during the previous mandate have occupied the seats of the opposition, Junts per Caldes d’Estrac and the independents of Gent d’Estrac, will govern in coalition from next Saturday. The two have obtained three councilors, the same as the PSC, while ERC has lost three of the five representatives.

Both formations have agreed to divide the mayoralty for two years each. In this way, the first mayor will be Albert Batlle (Gd’E) who already was between 1987 and 1981 with the Convergència white label, Units per Caldes. The last two years of the mandate, the mayoralty will be occupied by the JxCat candidate, Elisabet Segura, who has succeeded Joaquim Arnó as head of the list, who was mayor between 2007 and 2016, then overthrown by a motion of no confidence by the ERC and PSC , currently number two of the postconvergents.

Sources close to the parties that will form the government, have admitted that in the first contacts with the PSC they were surprised by “the arrogance” of the negotiators demanding the mayoralty for the following four years and maintaining the portfolios that both Joan Baró and Miguel González Monforte -who is also organization secretary of PSC Maresme- had until now. The Socialists have been the force with the most votes with just over 20 votes difference from Gent.

The Government Pact has been sealed by the respective heads of the list, Albert Batlle (GdE) and Elisabeth Segura (JxC), in the presence of those elected from both formations: Marta Romero and Jordi López from GdE and Joaquim Arnó and Xavier Herrero by JxC. The sum of these councilors will give way to a coalition government with an absolute majority (6) of the members of the plenary made up of a total of 11 councilors.

In this sense, both formations express “the will to form a government of stability and governability based on parameters of mutual respect, teamwork with rigor and planning, and good governance with mechanisms of transparency and proximity to the citizenry, to the service of the recovery and progress of Caldes d’Estrac”

Among the programmatic axes of the future government, it stands out to recover the operation and good management of public facilities and services now closed, in disuse, or pending reception, as quickly as possible, establishing the necessary mechanisms and means.

Both formations will promote the drafting of the new POUM (Municipal Urban Planning Plan) that ensures the sustainable growth of the number of inhabitants based on exciting infrastructures or those that may exist in the future and with the maximum involvement and participation of citizens .

Along the same lines, they will deal with infrastructure improvements and maintenance of public roads and municipal buildings (street cleaning, garbage, green areas, beaches, urban furniture) and address the solution, if possible agreed, of the conflicts in which it is involved. immersed in the City Hall.

The two mayors have announced that they will seek consensus, political and social, in the achievement of large town projects, such as the parking solution, the Karítimo front, the Parc de Cab Muntanyà, the esplanade and the Can Muntanyà reedbed and the demolition of the N-II Viaduct.

They also point out that, contrary to what has happened so far, they will guarantee the rights and duties of councilors who are not part of the municipal government, who “will be treated with the dignity of their citizen representation, eradicating sectarianism and deceit in municipal management “.

GdE and JxC will soon announce the specific distribution of the municipal folder, waiting to be aware of the reality and state of the situation, after taking possession of their positions in plenary session on June 17.
