Josep Santacreu has been elected today as the new president of the Chamber of Barcelona, ??promising the representativeness, effectiveness and independence of the institution. In the plenary vote held this morning, the candidates for the executive committee proposed by the winning Santacreu list prevailed, although the pro-independence party from Eines de País has contested four of the positions on the executive committee, including a vice presidency.

The new vice-presidents will be Eloi Planes (President of Fluidra), Martina Font (Font Packaging Group) and Miquel Martí (Moventia). The treasurer will be Xavier Comerma, representative of Banco Sabadell, who ran in the elections as an independent but with the support of Va d’Empresa. The other members of the executive committee are Xavier Pujol, Marta Angerri, Enric Bordas, Jaume Vendrell, August Tarracó, Joan Nogués and Emma Gubert.

The election of Santacreu by the plenary puts an end to four years in which the public law institution was controlled by a business candidacy promoted by the ANC independence movement. Mònica Roca held the position for the last two years, replacing Joan Canadell, today a member of Junts in the Parliament, who was in the first period of the mandate that is now ending.

The act of constitution of the new plenary session was chaired by the Company Secretary, Albert Castellanos, who also served as president of the Central Electoral Board.

Eines de País, headed by Toni Fitó, questioned the validity of the votes and announced that it will study judicial measures against the results. His opinion is that a two-thirds limit should have been imposed on allocating election winners.
