The founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, has launched his new sailboat, a gigantic 127-meter-long vessel valued at around 500 million euros. The tycoon has been seen in the waters of the island of Mallorca aboard the yacht, called Koru, which is a word of Maori origin that alludes to new beginnings, together with the journalist Lauren Sánchez, with whom he has had a relationship for years. four years.
The couple arrived on the boat aboard a helicopter from the mainland and it is believed that they did not set foot on the Balearic Islands, since the boat they have launched has all the comforts. The ship traveled from the Netherlands to Mallorca last April, but Bezos had not released it until now. On these vacations, the couple has been photographed in an affectionate attitude on the deck of the boat while Sánchez wore a neon pink bikini.
Nearing 70 meters high, the boat is the tallest in the world according to the Daily Mail, and when it meets other recreational boats it makes the rest of the yachts and sailboats in the surroundings look like children’s toys.
This is not the first time that Bezos and Sánchez have chosen the waters of Mallorca for their endless vacations around the world. In 2019, the year that Bezos and Sánchez began their relationship, they were seen enjoying the island for a few summer days invited by the owner of the Rising Sun, David Geffen, founding partner with Steven Spielberg of the Dreamworks studios. The not inconsiderable Rising Sun, with 138 meters in length, surpassed that of Bezos.
The Amazon founder acquired the Koru last year from a well-known Dutch shipyard based in Rotterdam. When it was finished, its size was controversial because there was a risk of having to dismantle one of the oldest bridges in the Netherlands, the Koningshaven Bridge, built in 1878, so that the ship could reach the open sea.
In the end, it was not necessary to dismantle the bridge despite Bezos’s offer to cover all the derived expenses, since it is said that they decided to alter the design of the ship so that it would be possible for it to pass under the bridge.
Among the many amenities on the ship, it has a movie theater, several jacuzzis, a helipad, and an auxiliary dock for a smaller boat and several jet skis. According to various media, the ship can comfortably accommodate 18 guests, but obviously the capacity of the ship is much higher, since the ship alone can accommodate 40 people as a crew.
