Jagoba Arrasate will stop coaching Osasuna at the end of this season after deciding not to continue in the Navarrese entity after six years at the helm, in which he has managed to return sporting and social stability to the Navarrese team.
“I have made the decision not to renew with Osasuna. It is a complicated decision, as you can imagine, I am calm and at peace with myself. It is not a farewell, we are immersed in a competition in which there are nine games left and that will come,” the Basque coach indicated through tears.
The decision, one of the most significant in Reds’ history, was revealed this Tuesday afternoon at a press conference held at El Sadar, in which the Basque coach was accompanied by president Luis Sabalza and sports director Braulio Vázquez. .
Arrasate has stated that he does not have “the conviction that I had before.” “If I am not completely convinced, it is difficult for me to be happy. If I’m not happy it’s difficult for me to get the best out of myself. I think the time has come. “They are complicated hours,” he acknowledged.
“A very complicated disappointment at the beginning of the season, we have had to change the drawing plan, the scheme. I have the priority and I am obsessed with finishing well with Osasuna. I have to be honest with myself and with the club,” he explained.
He arrived in the summer of 2018 from Numancia. He had a huge season in the Second Division, ending it with a historic promotion.
With four consecutive stays in the top category, he established himself as the captain of the ship and the undisputed leader of the project.
Of his time, Arrasate has commented: “There have been six years where we have made each other better. Six years ago we were all worse off. I coached in Second and Braulio was sports director in Second. After six years we are in a better position.”
Last year, the team reached its best version with the Copa del Rey final played in Seville against Real Madrid and the qualification for Europe 16 years later, which came to nothing after the elimination in the previous phase against the Belgian Bruges.
The last great milestone was the Spanish Super Cup in Riyadh, a competition held last January. Regarding the decision reached in recent days, he explained that “they have not been easy days.”
“Since the club offered me to continue, I went into a process of reflection. That period has been long. I am grateful to everyone and calm with myself,” said Arrasate.
