IU will choose its management bodies among the four pre-candidacies that have finally registered their documentation, among them that of the former Andalusian coordinator Antonio Maíllo, after the proposal of the Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, to achieve a unitary candidacy failed.
The first candidate to present itself was Izquierda Unida en la encrucijada, headed by the coordinator of the Madrid federation Álvaro Aguilera, with Aroha Nicolás in second place.
The second was The necessary left, headed by José Antonio García Rubio, member of the current Federal Coordinator of IU and responsible for Employment and Economic Policy in the Cayo Lara team, and which has Rosa Albert in second place.
It’s worth fighting for is the candidacy led by former IU-Andalucía coordinator Antonio Maíllo and which has Beatriz González in second place.
Finally, the candidacy Arriba los que struggling, of the Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, has been registered, with Antonio Torrijos in second place.

Afterwards, a brief internal electoral campaign will begin, which will be followed by the voting period, scheduled between May 7 and 12, which includes the first few days of telematic voting and the last ones with the possibility of in-person voting at the ballot box.
People affiliated with IU will be able to exercise their right to vote both for the new composition of the highest management body between assemblies, and for the rest of the bodies that are traditionally elected by this procedure, that is, the Federal Commission of Arbitration and Democratic Guarantees and the Financial Control Commission.
Rego did not achieve the extension of the 48-hour period that he requested to try to achieve a unitary candidacy, so it ended this Tuesday.
As sources from the minister’s pre-candidacy have told EFE, it was Antonio Maíllo, former coordinator of IU-Andalucía and one of those who has registered her pre-candidacy, who has blocked that possibility.
The minister also proposed this Tuesday a co-leadership formula, with a single list among the four candidates and the integration of the four lists in the IU leadership with distribution of responsibilities during the meeting she held with the other candidates and the territorial coordinators of the training.
