A woman accidentally makes a purchase while she is sleeping, costing her around 3,500 euros.

Kelly K. (42) has a rare sleep disorder: she shops while she sleeps. The unconscious shopping trips have now cost her mother around $3,800 (around €3,500). This is reported by the “New York Post” and cites information from the “South West News Service”.

The items she ordered included refrigerators, tables and hundreds of Haribo candies. She also gave confidential financial information to scammers. When she woke up, they had debited $317 from her account, Kelly reported in the New York Post. “It’s really unsettling and frustrating to go to bed thinking, ‘I don’t know what the night will bring,'” said the 42-year-old.

The woman suffers from sleep apnea. According to “Gesundheitsinformation.de”, this means short pauses in breathing during sleep. Kelly believes that this is what caused her parasomnia. This term “describes various undesirable behaviors that occur during sleep or the sleep-wake transition,” writes the AOK.

She now has a CPAP machine. According to “Gesundheitsinformation.de”, the abbreviation stands for “continuous positive airway pressure”. The breathing mask can either cover just the nose or also the mouth and is connected to a breathing device by a tube.

“It pumps room air into the airways with a slight overpressure. The incoming air keeps the airways clear and prevents breathing from stopping,” says “Gesundheitsinformation.de”. However, Kelly had already unconsciously removed the device while she was sleeping, writes the “New York Post”.
