The series Succession, The Bear and Bronca start as favorites at the 75th edition of the Emmy Awards organized by the United States Television Academy and which will be held just eight days after they won the Golden Globes, each of them in their respective categories: drama, comedy and miniseries. Exceptionally, this season the Emmy Awards ceremony takes place after the Golden Globes because the strike of writers and actors in Hollywood forced it to be postponed for four months (it was originally announced for September 18). ).

Finally, it will be in the early hours of Monday the 15th to Tuesday the 16th (Spanish time) when the Emmy gala will be held. In this edition, in which HBO once again leads the ranking of nominations with a total of 127 with titles such as the aforementioned Succession, The White Lotus and The Last Of Us, actor Anthony Anderson, nominated in seven, will act as master of ceremonies. occasions for Black-ish comedy. Once again, the gala can be followed in Spain from Movistar Plus.

The Golden Globe-winning series also triumphed (and won) the awards in the protagonist category: Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook ( Succession ), Jeremy Allen Whitey and Ayo Edebiri ( The Bear) and Steven Yeun and Ali Wong ( Bronca) . With the exception of Ayo Edebiri, who has not received a nomination at these Emmys, all of them could repeat their success.

Possible rivals to avoid this repetition are, in the drama category, Brian Cox, although also for that fourth and final season of Succession; Bob Odenkirk, to close Better Call Saul with all honors; or Pedro Pascal, who has cemented his star status with The Last of Us. Precisely Pascal’s partner in this series, Bella Ramsey, could be one of the rivals for Sarah Snook to repeat her victory, in addition to Keri Russell (The Diplomat) and the always well-positioned Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale).

In comedy, and in the absence of Ayo Edebiri, the best placed is Rachel Brosnahan, to thus reward The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, in the season of her goodbye, something that the members of the academy always like very much. The competition for Jeremy Allen Whitey is undoubtedly Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), winner of the category the last two editions. In the miniseries category, except as a surprise, there is little competition for the protagonists of Bronca.

The historic strike in Hollywood of screenwriters and actors, both essential for the Emmys, meant that the awards gala had this four-month delay. This is the first time the Emmys have been postponed since 2001, when the September 11 attacks occurred just five days before the scheduled ceremony, which would end up being held in November.

Those in charge of the Television Academy breathed a sigh of relief when the actors voted to approve their new contract that ended the strike on December 5. This delay is going to cause some strange oddities, such as, for example, that the nominations for The Bear are for its first season, although the awards will be handed out six months after the launch of its second season (which, by the way, was the winner at the recent Golden Globes).

According to the Academy, the envelopes with the names of the winners have remained unopened for more than four months since they wanted at least the voting to be the same as always, so its approximately 20,000 members had to cast their votes before on August 28.
