Irene Urdangarin’s first love already has a name. The daughter of Infanta Cristina and Iñaki Urdangarin is in a relationship with the younger brother of Teresa Urquijo, the wife of the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida. Juan Urquijo and the King’s niece have known each other since they were children, as both families are descendants of Alfonso XII. In fact, they are third cousins.
They had not seen each other for years and it was last summer when they met again, when they were on vacation, thanks to Victoria Federica, Irene’s cousin. As reported by ¡Hola! magazine, the young people began their relationship in the fall of 2023 and their families are happy that they are together. It was a crush that began as a special friendship and has ended in a romantic relationship, which they now live at a distance and with their sights set on the summer and the next course.
Currently, the couple maintains a long-distance relationship because Infanta Cristina’s daughter lives in Cambodia, where she has been volunteering since February of this year. For his part, Juan Urquijo resides in Madrid after completing his studies as an agricultural engineer in the United Kingdom.
The magazine Hello! publishes some exclusive photographs in which they are seen very close, looking at each other lovingly, chatting, commenting on something they are seeing on Irene’s phone and walking through the streets of Madrid, in two different meetings.
Juan Urquijo Moreno is the youngest son of Beatriz Moreno de Borbón-Dos Sicilias and Lucas Urquijo Fernández de Araoz. The youngest of the Urquijo family was born in Madrid in January 1999 and is currently 25 years old, seven older than Irene.
The young man grew up between his two grandparents’ farms. On the one hand, Los molinillos by Piru Urquijo, paternal grandmother and great-aunt of the future Duchess of Alba. And, on the other hand, El canto de la cruz, the farm of his maternal grandparents where the wedding of his sister Teresa took place with Martínez-Almeida.
Teresa Urquijo’s brother studied at St.George’s school in the luxurious complex of La Moraleja (Madrid). It was precisely at this same school where he met Victoria Federica de Marichalar, second daughter of the Infanta Elena, with whom he forged a great friendship.
After finishing his secondary school studies, he headed to the United Kingdom, where he completed his training at the Royal Agricultural University and specialized in Agricultural Engineering, specifically in Agribusiness and Hunting Management. Like Irene, after ending his time as a student, the young man decided to volunteer in Thailand.
Irene, who after finishing her high school studies began volunteering in Cambodia, collaborating with the Spanish Jesuit Enrique Figaredo, is looking forward to her love with Juan. Although the couple is currently at a distance, they both share many hobbies such as horse riding, tennis and skiing.
