The Iranian Defense Ministry affirmed this Sunday that it has repelled an attack with three drones against one of its military installations in the city of Isfahan, in the center of the country.
The attack occurred shortly before midnight at a military complex in Isfahan and involved three drones that were neutralized by Iranian defense systems without causing significant damage, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
“One of the micro drones was shot down by air defense fire from the complex, while the other two were caught in defensive nets and exploded,” the Iranian authorities explained.
The Ministry of Defense assured that the attack was “failed”, did not cause human casualties and “only caused minor damage” to the roof of the facility.
Iranian authorities did not single out any country or organization for the attack, but Tehran has in the past accused Israel of carrying out alleged sabotage operations on its territory.
Iran accused Israel of an attempted sabotage against the Natanz uranium enrichment plant in 2021, when a blackout damaged hundreds of centrifuges, in what Tehran called “nuclear terrorism.”
A year later he singled out Israel again for another sabotage attempt against the Fordow underground nuclear plant.
Iran and Israel wage a covert war that includes cyber attacks, alleged assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists and sabotage of ships, though neither country publicly acknowledges their actions.
The Jewish state considers the Islamic Republic its main enemy and has also attacked Iranian military positions or allied militias in Syria for years to repel their presence in the region.
Iran has accused Israel, among other countries, of being behind the protests sparked by Amini’s death in September, which have caused nearly 500 deaths in judicial repression.
