A 14-year-old Villegas de Logroño cadet player remains in the ICU of the San Pedro Hospital in the capital of La Rioja, stable and under observation, after fainting during the game that his team played in the Tedeón field, in Navarrete, and having to be revived twice by parents who witnessed the crash.

The president of his club, Eva María Aguado, explained to EFE that this morning he was able to speak with the player’s family, who is “somewhat disoriented” but “better”, although “he will continue in the UCI, under observation “.

The events for which this player ended up in the hospital occurred yesterday while the cadet category match was being played in Navarrete, about 10 kilometers from Logroño, when “in a normal play” the ball hit the Villegas player’s chest, who collapsed on the pitch.

“Those who watched the game do not agree on whether the ball was hit very violently or not, some say one thing and others the opposite,” explains the president, who was not at that meeting “and there is also the possibility that the ball in such a way as to affect the electrical impulse of the heart, according to what some specialists have told us”.

When the boy was lying on the field, parents of soccer players from both teams jumped onto the pitch, including a nurse and a police officer.

Their intervention was crucial because they immediately began manual resuscitation maneuvers and managed to make the boy regain consciousness; moments later she suffered a cardiac arrest again and they repeated the maneuvers – in which they damaged a rib – just before an ambulance arrived at the facilities.

“Thanks to these people, the boy can tell it, we must be eternally grateful because what happened, which is something very rare, could have been very serious,” said the president of the club, who stressed that “many times we speak badly of parental behavior in these categories, but in this case it’s been lucky to have them there.
