The Moldovan Igor Postolache, the confessed murderer of the girl Erika Yunga, has been found dead this Wednesday in his cell in the Villahierro prison in Mansillas de las Mulas (León), where he was serving his reviewable permanent prison sentence.

As confirmed by the Government Sub-delegation, the inmate was found early this Wednesday morning hanged in his cell on the same day that he was scheduled to be transferred to a prison in A Coruña after confirming his sentence.

Igor Postolache confessed to having murdered and sexually assaulted 14-year-old Erika Yunga in Oviedo in April 2022 and accepted the Prosecutor’s account that it was a crime “planned, with premeditation, treachery and cruelty.”

He then took her to his apartment, on the first floor of the same building, to sexually assault her after giving her several more stab wounds that caused the death of the young woman.

After his arrest, he was admitted to the Villahierro prison, where the suicide prevention protocol was applied for a few months, and he remained in a cell under surveillance 24 hours a day with a trusted prisoner, a protocol that, according to sources from Penitentiary Institutions, no longer exists. it was applied to him.

Prison officials have stated that during his stay in the Leonese prison he hardly lived outside his cell and did not socialize with the rest of the inmates.
