If you like to walk, you should pay attention to the edges of the paths at this time of year, because, in spring, a great variety of flowers of different colors and shapes bloom, as seen in this photographic report in Readers’ Photos. La Vanguardia captured on the outskirts of Altet, in the Urgell region.
As beautiful as those that can be found in the Pyrenees. In these images I show the little shoes, bunnies or mansa nettle, also known as flor-robí, galleret, mataporc, ninois, peu de gall, peu de nostre senyor, tinya negra (Lamium amplexicaule). Lamium amplexicaule is a species of plant in the genus Lamium, which is a plant native to Europe, Asia and North Africa.
It is slow growing and measures between 10 and 25 cm high, with soft, finely hairy stems. The leaves are opposite and measure between 2 and 3 cm in diameter. The flowers are pink or purple, between 1.5 and 2 cm long.
The leaves, stem and flowers are edible, with a taste similar to celery. Of course they should not be consumed without advice from an expert in the matter.
The poppy receives several names such as rosella, roella, rojilla, yema, ronsella, roseller, rosellera, gallo, cap, gallgallaret, gatillo, lloca, coquerecoc, quiquiricall, paramano, papariu, quecquerequec, caraquec, quiquiriquic, quicaraquic, quicaracoc, coquerecoc, badabadoc, paparola, pipiripip, peperepep, ababol, babol, abadolera, capuchino, manpola, nuns, ganfanón, gallina and bambarol (in the lands of Lleida).
It is present almost all over the world: Asia, North America, Europe and Africa. It grows in fields, roadsides, stubble, pastures and meadows. It also grows as a “weed” in cereal crops, especially after the soil has been turned.
Muscari neglectum, commonly known as nazarene, has many other names, such as calabruixa petita, all de bruixa / colobra, barralets or marcet.
It is a small herb, up to 30 cm high, and with a bulb. Its flowers, which are born from February or March to May, are blue and small, and shaped like a jug. They are grouped together forming a very dense grape, with 15 to 40 flowers, located at the end of a leafless stem that comes directly from the bulb.
The upper flowers of the inflorescence, lighter and somewhat smaller, are sterile. The fruits are capsules in three locules. The leaves, which form a rosette at the base, are long, thin (1.5 to 5 mm wide) and canaliculated.
It is a Mediterranean distribution plant. It is found in dry meadows and cultivated lands, such as in the Urgell region.
Erodium malacoides is considered an annual or biennial weed, native to much of Eurasia and North Africa, but can be found on most continents where it is an introduced species.
In Caralán it is known as needles, also stork’s beak, curripeus, filamaria, geranium filamaria, clocks, glasses. It is a species of Mediterranean herbaceous plants of the Geraniaceae family. It is annual or biennial.
Erodium is a genus that includes several plants in the Geraniaceae family. The name of this genus comes from the Greek word erodios, which means magpie, referring to the beak shape of its seeds, similar to that of the rest of the geranaceae.
