In La Vanguardia Readers’ Photos we can see in detail these images of ice and water in the Riera Major river, today, December 29, in Sant Sadurní d’Osormort, Osona region.
A little water is still falling in the Riera Major and with the low temperatures these days, part of the water freezes, as can be seen in the photographs.
The Riera Major originates in Montseny, within the municipality of Viladrau, crossing the beautiful area of ??Les Guilleries, flows through the municipalities of Sant Sadurní d’Osormort and Vilanova de Sau, where it flows into the Ter river downstream of the Sau reservoir.
One of the curiosities of the Riera Major as it passes through Sant Sadurní d’Osormort is that you can see a fish ladder. It is a type of transfer system, a channel with artificially increased roughness, which communicates the level of the reservoir upstream of the dam with the level of the river downstream of it. The shape of the ladder must allow fish migrating in the river to cross the dam. It has an eminently ecological function.
But, today, the center stage in the Riera Major is the frost, a meteorological phenomenon that consists of a drop in ambient temperature to levels below the freezing point of water and causes the water or vapor in the air to freezes, depositing itself as ice on surfaces.
