The former president of the Junta of Extremadura Juan Carlos Rodríguez Ibarra considered this Wednesday that amnesty to the Catalan independentists is “violating 40 million Spaniards” because it would mean violating the Spanish Constitution.

This is how the historic socialist militant expressed himself at the informative breakfast organized by Nueva Economía Fórum in Madrid in the speech he gave to gloss the figure of the Academician of the Royal Spanish Academy and Honorary President of El País, Juan Luis Cebrián, who was the guest of the Europe Forum.

Rodríguez Ibarra stressed that no one would think of giving amnesty to a rapist who is in jail, “with the monumental scandal that we have experienced” due to the release of some rapists who have benefited from the Law of only yes means yes, so “How can you put up with someone raping 40 million Spaniards” with the approval of an amnesty for the independentists, because if the amnesty goes ahead it is going against the Constitution and means “raping the Spaniards.”

Throughout his presentation he referred on several occasions to the hypothetical amnesty for the independentists. “The press complains that the President of the Government does not talk about the amnesty. He is not right, he already spoke about it a few days before the July 23 elections in an interview on laSexta and said that there was going to be no amnesty.

“The general secretary of my party has to fulfill what he said before 23-J. He has to do what he committed to in that interview,” he added. And, then, he asserted that he does not understand “that the leaders of my party pave the way for Puigdemont,” whom he called a “coward.”

“I imagine Puigdemont in his luxurious villa in Waterloo laughing at all of us, saying here what I say is done and I resist this situation. I resist the man who fled in the trunk of a car, like a coward, deciding the future of my country,” concluded Rodríguez Ibarra.
