Husband’s Defense Challenges Evidence in Missing Mom Case, Seeks Bond

news-24092024-050519

Nearly two months after the disappearance of Mamta Kafle Bhatt, her husband is seeking to be released on bond. Mamta, a 28-year-old nurse and mother from Northern Virginia, went missing in late July, leading to a widespread search effort in the community as she missed her daughter’s first birthday.

Naresh Bhatt, Mamta’s husband, was arrested in connection with her disappearance and accused of concealing her dead body. However, his defense team is now challenging the evidence presented in the case. According to new court documents, Bhatt’s attorney claims that a detective made a false statement that was used to obtain an arrest warrant.

Initially, the detective stated that a body was dragged out of the Bhatt family’s home, but later clarified that the body was only moved from one room to another inside the house. The defense also raised doubts about the blood detection system used by investigators and questioned whether it was Naresh who conducted internet searches on remarrying after a spouse’s death.

Prosecutors, on the other hand, maintain that they have substantial evidence linking Naresh to Mamta’s disappearance, including blood traces, missing knives, and a purchase of cleaning supplies. They have also requested Naresh’s Google records as part of the investigation.

Despite the defense’s arguments, Mamta’s family and supporters are urging the judge not to grant Naresh bond, fearing for the safety of the community and Mamta’s young child. They believe that Naresh should remain in custody until full justice is served and are calling for more serious charges to be brought against him.

The Manassas Park community is rallying together during this difficult time, awaiting the judge’s decision on Naresh Bhatt’s bond request. The family spokesperson expressed gratitude for the work of the Manassas Park police and emphasized the importance of keeping Naresh detained for the well-being of the community.
