She had planned to study fashion at Central Saint Martins, but Euphoria, and her Jules Vaugh crossed her path opening the doors of fame and opportunities on a large scale. Hunter Schafer is a 21st century angel, a talented and versatile woman who will soon be seen in Cuckoo and in the latest installment of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. She is a reference for the Zeta and Alpha generations (born after 2010 and the first 100% digital) and Time included her last year in its list of 100 emerging leaders who are shaping the future. “I try to be optimistic. Hope is very powerful. It’s fun to dream about what the future can bring us, ”she says.
Converted into an LGBTQIA icon, she is aware of the interest she arouses: “It’s okay to say that I am the object of public attention for being a trans person who is very young, and that I am part of a very well-received television program. I think Gen Z is in a sociopolitical space where we’re primed for that. I just feel so grateful to be living at a time when someone like me can pursue this career path, and to be involved in creating space for others to take control,” she declares.
Mugler has had a good eye for choosing his new Angel. “A contemporary angel is someone who moves with grace and power. That he harnesses the best of femininity, the best of masculinity, and everything in between to propel his fantasies into reality,” Schafer opines. “Working with Hunter is a dream. For years I have dreamed that she was our Angel. She is beautiful both inside and out. She is full of energy and creativity. She brings positivity to everyone she touches and that’s why she’s so perfect for Mugler,” explains Casey Cadwallader, Creative Director of Mugler Fashion.
How close is it? She says that where she thinks best is “by the sea, or in a car looking out the window”; that his favorite hideout is a hotel; that he is enjoying acting but that “drawing, illustrating and painting are my first passions” and he will not put them aside; who dreams of dancing; that his favorite song right now is Goodbye Stranger by Supertramp…Hunter tries to “bring authenticity” to everything he does. The best advice he’s ever gotten from her wasn’t for her and he got it from the psychologist on the Fleabag series. “You already know what you are going to do”. “I think that’s true,” she concludes.
