The rise in hotel prices in Spain has taken a breather in the month of July. It is not that they have dropped in price, because tourist demand continues to be high, but they have become more expensive at the least rite in the last two years. Thus, the average price of a room is 128.8 euros per night in July, 6.3% more than the same month of the previous year, according to the survey of the hotel situation published this Wednesday by the INE.

In terms of business, hotels registered 149.76 million overnight stays in Spain in the first seven months of this year, which is 13.5% more than in the same period of 2022 and a higher figure than January-July 2022. 2019, the year before the start of the pandemic, according to data published this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Hotel stays rose 2.5% in July compared to the same month in 2022 and reached the figure of 43.1 million, lower than the 3.3% increase in June and still somewhat below the overnight stays registered in July 2019, the year before the pandemic that is used as a reference in the tourism sector, when more than 43.2 million were exceeded.

By origin of the guests, the nights of travelers residing in Spain exceeded 15.3 million in July, which represented 35.6% of the total. For their part, those of non-residents stood at over 27.7 million.

Travelers from the United Kingdom and Germany accounted for 25.5% and 16.6%, respectively, of the total overnight stays of non-residents in hotel establishments in July. Overnight stays by travelers from France, the United States and the Netherlands (the next source markets) accounted for 8.6%, 4.8% and 4.4% of the total, respectively.

The average stay decreased by 0.6% compared to July 2022, standing at 3.4 overnight stays per traveller. Andalusia, Catalonia and the Valencian Community were the main destinations for travelers residing in Spain in July, with 23.8%, 15.2% and 12.8% of the total overnight stays, respectively.

For their part, the main destination chosen by non-residents was the Balearic Islands, with 34.5% of the total overnight stays. The next destinations were Catalonia and the Canary Islands, with 20.9% and 18.4% of the total, respectively.

In July, 70.2% of the places offered were covered, with an annual increase of 1.3%. The occupancy rate by bedplaces at weekends rose 1.5% and stood at 74.1%. The Balearic Islands presented the highest degree of occupancy by beds during July (87.5%). It is followed by the Canary Islands, with 75.8%.

By tourist areas, Palma-Calvià reached the highest occupancy rate by bedplaces (90.2%), as well as the highest occupancy rate on weekends (89.5%). Isla de Mallorca registered the highest number of overnight stays in July, with 7,914,778.

The tourist spots with the most overnight stays were Barcelona, ??Madrid and Calvià. Santa Margalida presented the highest degree of occupancy by beds (93.8%) and the highest occupancy on weekends (94.8%).

The annual rate of the Hotel Price Index (IPH) stood at 6.2%, which is 10.1 points less than that registered in the same month of 2022, and 1.8 points less than that registered last month .

By autonomous community, the highest increases in hotel prices compared to July 2022 occurred in the autonomous city of Melilla (24.7%) and Navarra (14.3%). The smallest increase was registered in Cantabria, with an annual variation rate of 1.7%. By category, the highest price increase occurred in establishments with a silver star (10.7%).

The average daily billing of hotels for each occupied room (ADR) was 128.8 euros in July, which represents an increase of 6.3% compared to the same month in 2022. For its part, the average daily income per room available (RevPAR), which is conditioned by the occupancy registered in hotel establishments, reached 96.5 euros, with a rise of 7.5%.

The tourist spot with the highest average daily billing was Estepona, with an average daily billing per occupied room of 298 euros. In addition, it presented the highest RevPAR, with revenue per available room of 250.4 euros.
