This Holy Week could be remembered as the week of prayers to ask for rain. And the good news is that, after Palm Sunday, for now, it is raining.
Prayers and supplications against drought are very present in the processions this year in Catalonia. Without going any further, in the traditional Processó dels Armats de Vic on Palm Sunday, for the first time in its history, the bishop dedicated a prayer to ask for rain.
He did it just at the moment when the Virgin Mary passed in front of the Church of La Piedad. The bearers of her faced her looking at the temple – until now she always passed straight -, addressing Sant Llucià and Sant Marcià, co-patrons of Vic who are the ones traditionally invoked to ask for rain.
In these photographs in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos we see symbolic images of rain linked to religious settings.
On the one hand, we see the detail of a drop on the Gothic bridge of Manresa, in Bages, with the cathedral in the background and the terminal cross standing out.
On the other hand, we can see this other image, in this case, an abstract interpretation with pink and purple colors of the gift of rain with the drops falling on the Sant Pere Màrtir mountain, in the vicinity of Barcelona.
