The Lakers beat the Timberwolves this morning 120-109. The victory of the Angelenos, the most unpredictable team in the NBA, was based on Anthony Davis, who achieved historic numbers: 27 points, 25 rebounds, five assists, seven steals and three blocks. He is the first player in history with a game of more than 25 points, 25 rebounds and five steals.
Despite Davis’ display, the Lakers were dense, especially during the first three quarters. The Angelenos, before the break, had already given away 11 balls, and ended the match with 20 turnovers. In addition, they allowed the Wolves players to shoot freely from the perimeter, who scored ten triples in the first three periods.
Dervin Ham’s team reacted in the fourth act, with a run of 21-4 that left the game in doubt. The Timberwolves missed nine consecutive shots and Davis left no rebound options (21 of the 25 he captured were in the second half).
In addition to La Ceja’s monstrous performance, LeBron James also stood out for the Lakers. The Akron player, who was returning after resting due to ankle discomfort, had 29 points, eight rebounds and nine assists.
The Angelenos, who have a record of 12-5 since the month of February began, are two games away from sixth place, the last one that gives direct access to the playoffs. Furthermore, in the last two weeks, the Lakers have beaten three rivals from the top of the standings: the Thunder, the Clippers and the Wolves themselves.
In the Minnesota team, Anthony Edwards, with 25 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, was excessively alone. The number one in the Draft in 2020 missed his two partners, Karl-Anthony Towns, who was out until at least the playoffs, and Rudy Gobert, who rested with muscle problems. The absence of both explains, in part, why Davis was so superior under the rim.
The Minnesota Timberwolves, who have led the Western Conference at many points during the season, are third, although a game and a half behind the leader, the Thunder. Even so, the casualties are diminishing Chris Finch’s team, who have four defeats in the last six games.
