A decade has passed since the death of Manolo Escobar, but his name is once again on the front page of the current news. The reason, the appearance of Julián Montiel Peña, a Mallorcan who at 52 claims to be the biological son of the legendary singer, who would have gotten his mother pregnant at the beginning of the 70s after a fleeting relationship.

His lawyer, the prestigious Sevillian lawyer Fernando Osuna, has already announced that he will file a paternity suit to carry out the pertinent tests that demonstrate whether or not Julián is the legitimate son of the interpreter of hits such as My Car, for which he will present the lawsuit either in the Court of First Instance of Palma de Mallorca, where the plaintiff resides, or in Madrid, where the heirs of Manuel Escobar live.

The Mallorcan discovered the “truth” seven months ago, when after many people told him how much he physically resembled the singer, he finally found out that his father was Manolo Escobar. “My father is actually my stepfather and after investigating and gathering evidence – and even a direct witness to the relationship – I found out that my real biological father was Manolo Escobar,” he writes on his public Facebook profile.

“Both Manolo and my mother are deceased and I find myself terribly helpless that nobody does anything for me,” he explains. However, a week later, the lawyer Fernando Osuna accepted his case, starting the machinery to prove his paternity.

A matter in which he is not moving for money, as he has assured in an interview with the newspaper El Español; that he would “never” “dare” to invent something like that. “I wish I had shown up when he was alive, because I could have met him, if only to say goodbye to him.”

“Escobar family… Two brothers, uncle and aunt who are still alive by Manolo Escobar; my cousin Ana García Lozano and Vanessa García Marx; it is a shame that knowing that I have appeared you remain silent without doing anything,” he denounces, adding that he “would be ashamed” to be one of them “and do nothing.” “You have me very tired with your indifference,” he laments, assuring the aforementioned newspaper that he was even willing to sign before a notary who did not want a penny from him.

Montiel has not stopped trying to draw attention to his case through his networks, in the hope of being able to demonstrate what is the truth for him. Among other things, him sharing a picture of his mother and the artist. “My mother was gorgeous! It is logical and normal that my father, Manuel García Escobar, fell in love with my mother, and my mother with him! The Mallorcan does not doubt it, and affirms: “I am the fruit of that love, neither more nor less than the unknown son of Manolo Escobar!”

At the moment, the lawsuit needs to be filed and accepted by the judge, but Montiel assures that he is prepared for whatever comes. “I have witnesses that corroborate the information. It is a very old couple from the Hotel Son Vida (Mallorca). They know everything,” says the alleged son of the artist, who also relies on his amazing physical resemblance to the singer and the memories he has of his mother as “proof” for his lawsuit.

He is not the first person who claims to be the son of the remembered artist. In 2017, the Asturian María Eva García Figueras already claimed to be the singer’s daughter, but after two years in court trying to prove her truth, the judge determined that she was not.
