The pair of gray herons above in the nest and below the pair of cattle egrets talking or scolding the herons, a snapshot that I was able to capture for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia on the banks of the Ter river.
Gray herons have been around for days and some have young, while cattle egrets arrived later and are now mating.
Gray heron nests start out as a small platform of sticks, but can end up being a huge mass of accumulated material.
We are lucky to be able to observe this spectacle of nature from the Les Masies de Voltregà viewpoint, without disturbing the birds, since the trees where they are located are on the other side of the river.
The cattle egret is a slender white bird with its beautiful crest of gold or orange feathers on its head. We often see them with cattle, where they find insects and next to agricultural machinery, where they find worms, small reptiles, among other food.
