The Norwegian Erling Haaland, striker for Manchester City, has finished the league season with a new success, being recognized as the best young player and the best player of the season in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old Nordic attacker is the first footballer in history to manage to combine these two awards in the same campaign, the first in the highest category of English football, which he came from Borussia Dortmund.
Haaland has scored 36 goals, which has also made him the top scorer, after taking 123 shots, 60 of them on goal, and has distributed eight assists. He has surpassed the record of 34 held by Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer. Key, therefore, for Manchester City to have achieved the fifth league title in six seasons.
This is the third City player to win the best player award in a row, after the Belgian Kevin de Bruyne (2019/20 and 2021/22) and the Portuguese Ruben Dias (2020/21).
To win the award, he has beaten the other seven nominees, De Bruyne himself, Harry Kane, Martin Odegaard, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Kieran Tripier.
“I am honored to have become the first player to win both awards in the same season. Thanks to everyone who voted for me,” Haaland told the ‘sky blues’ website.
“It’s been an incredible first season in the Premier League and lifting the Trophy last weekend in front of our fans at the Etihad was a very special moment for me. These awards would not have been possible without my incredible teammates, the coach and all the staff at the club who help me. Now we have two more finals left and we want to finish the season strong, â€he pointed out.
