The main or most central squares of the cities and towns of Catalonia, starting with the Plaça de Sant Jaume in Barcelona, ??are usually the setting chosen to plant the Christmas tree, symbol of the Christmas spirit of each municipality, as we see in Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia.

In reality, any square is good, since these spaces offer more visibility, being wider and more open than a street, and are usually places with more passage and the confluence of several roads.

A square is a public urban space, large or small and uncovered, where a wide variety of activities usually take place during Christmas. In some towns, such as Barcelona, ??it is also the place chosen to set up the municipality’s nativity scene.

There are squares of multiple shapes and sizes, built in all eras, but they are omnipresent in any town or city. Therefore, they are a point of reference for any citizen and, at Christmas, to generate a Christmas atmosphere.

We already have the lights on for the Christmas tree in the Plaça Major in Vic. This week they put it up and last night they turned on the lights for the first time on a tree that will be in this beautiful square until after the holidays.

The Plaça Major or Mercat is the historical and nerve center of the city, a meeting point and many events of all kinds. The market is held every Tuesday and Saturday. It is a square with arcades on all four sides, full of history and more than beautiful.

We are located in Alella, a town in Maresme where the town’s Christmas lights have already been turned on. During the event, the people who gathered in the Plaza del Ajuntament were also able to enjoy a Christmas carol concert thanks to several choirs.

And once the lights were on, all that was left was to walk around the town and enjoy the different colors and shapes of these Christmas decorations.
