Gas prices in San Diego County have reached their lowest point of 2021, providing a bit of relief for drivers. The average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the county dropped to $4.591, marking a significant decrease from previous weeks.

According to data from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service, the average price has been on a downward trend, dropping for six consecutive days. This recent decrease of 3.7 cents follows a series of back-to-back increases, giving drivers a break at the pump.

Comparing the current average price to previous weeks, it is 3.4 cents less than one week ago and 3.6 cents lower than one month ago. The gap is even wider when looking back one year, with the average price a staggering 75.3 cents below what it was in the same period.

The drop in gas prices is a welcome change for many, especially considering that the average price had previously reached a record high of $6.435 on Oct. 5, 2022. Since then, prices have plummeted by $1.844, providing some much-needed relief for drivers in the county.

On a national level, the average gas price has also been on the decline, dropping for the fourth consecutive day. The national average price now stands at $3.103, which is 2.7 cents less than one week ago and 8.7 cents lower than one month ago. Looking back a year, the national average price is 33.5 cents below what it was in the same period.

The recent decrease in gas prices nationally has been a gradual one, with the average price dropping by 3.2 cents over the past four days. This downward trend follows a brief period of back-to-back increases, but overall, drivers are experiencing some relief at the pump.

For those who remember the record high national average price of $5.016 on June 14, 2022, the current average price of $3.103 is a significant improvement. The drop of $1.913 since that peak has made a noticeable difference for drivers across the country.

Overall, the recent drop in gas prices in both San Diego County and nationally is a positive development for drivers. As prices continue to decrease, many are hopeful that this trend will provide some financial relief for those who rely on their vehicles for daily transportation.
