The winner of the municipal elections in Badalona, Xavier García Albiol, will take the new municipal portfolio for approval, with the composition of the government of 18 councilors for the 2023-2027 term, the week after being invested. One of the first actions that he will activate will be the structural reform of a paralyzed City Council, which includes reviewing the staff’s teleworking days to prioritize face-to-face work.

As he explained to La Vanguardia, one of the priorities includes “reformulating the urban projects initiated without the consent of the residents” such as the new square on Bac de Roda street, in the Morera neighborhood. Albiol also warns that he will influence eternal initiatives, such as the demolition of the Mobba factory, where a new public square is planned and “which is at the end of the judicial process.” He has also had an impact on paralyzing other projects such as the expansion of the sidewalks.

“We will immediately start working on improving security,” he asserted, so that as soon as he is invested he will hold a meeting with the head of the Urban Police to discuss new strategies that reduce the crime rate in the city.

In parallel, it will affect “another problem that embarrasses me” such as the lack of showers and drinking water in some sports facilities “for more than a year”, as well as the sanitation of some changing rooms “where in twelve months there has not been acted against legionella”. Another of the initiatives in which the mayor from Badalona has insisted during the electoral campaign is the improvement of street cleaning. “The first thing will be to meet with the winning company to rethink the system” until a new contest is held and the public service tender for four years.

“We will get to work immediately because we are very clear about the needs of Badalona”. Many of them bear the stamp of “urgent” and can be activated thanks to the stability granted by a majority of 18 councilors.
