One of the best moments to contemplate the Can Vinyers de Matadepera mill, in the Vallès Occidental, is with the sun backlighting, as can be seen in this series of photographs in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.
Can Vinyers is a farmhouse that has been documented since the early 15th century, but the windmill, used to pump water from the subsoil, dates from the early 20th century.
It is a metal wind turbine, with a multi-blade wheel, slewing tail and rotor. It is a model similar to the one that became widespread in the western United States from the 1870s.
Over the years and the introduction of motors, the Can Vinyers mill fell into disuse and gradually fell into disrepair.
Finally, the Matadepera City Council restored it thanks to a grant of 35,000 euros from the Barcelona Provincial Council. In 2015, the mill was once again in the restored Can Vinyers farmhouse.
