Francisco Martín Aguirre becomes this Thursday the fifth delegate of the Government in the Community of Madrid under the legislature of the socialist government of Pedro Sánchez. His predecessors have been José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, María Paz García Vera, José Manuel Franco and Mercedes González.
His appointment occurs to relieve González, who left his position to assume the direction of the Civil Guard.
Martín, who until now held the position of General Secretary of the Presidency of the Government, was born in Madrid in 1981. He is a Forestry Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in International Trade from ICEX-CECO.
The new delegate has carried out his professional career as an engineer, both in the public and private sectors, being responsible for project management in the field of civil, forestry and environmental engineering, as well as communication and institutional relations in international contexts.
Chief of Staff of the Presidency of the Tragsa Group in 2011 and head of action in the civil reconstruction project of the province of Badghis (Afghanistan) in 2012, from 2017 to June 2018 he was Director of Administration and Finance of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE).
Director of the Technical Office of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Government between June 2018 and January 2020, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of Paradores de Turismo de España; Director of the Department of Planning and Monitoring of Government Activity of the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Government from January 2020 to July 2021, General Secretary of the Presidency of the Government from then until his current appointment.
Between July 2021 and March 2023, he has also been a member of the Board of Directors of National Heritage and a member of the Board of Trustees of the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP).
The act of appointment was held at the headquarters of the delegation and was attended, among other authorities, by the Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, Félix Bolaños; the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and the mayor of the capital, José Luis Martínez-Almeida.
