A staircase in a building located in the Poblenou neighborhood of Barcelona has collapsed this Thursday without causing any injuries, although a total of 14 people have been evicted as a precaution.

The Barcelona Fire Brigade have received a notice at noon due to the collapse of the stairs in the building located at Rambla del Poblenou 103, and some residents have had to be evicted by the Barcelona Fire Brigade.

The Deputy Mayor for Prevention, Safety, Coexistence and Internal Regime, Albert Batlle, confirmed this afternoon that “there has been no accident of any kind” and that, except for the stairs, “it seems that the rest of the building does not offer any danger”.

“We do not know the causes at this time; firefighters and the inspection services will have to find out,” he said.

Batlle has also detailed that it is a six-story building with three floors in each, and that “at this time we do not know if all (the neighbors) were there, if there were people who were on vacation or if there were empty floors.”

For his part, the chief of duty of the Barcelona Fire Department, Pièrre Álvarez, explained that they received the notice around 1:30 p.m. and detailed that the stairs went from the second to the third floor, and from the third to the fourth.

“The third floor has been totally isolated and they could not go up or down,” said Álvarez, who also highlighted that this staircase was being rehabilitated by a company.

In addition, the person in charge of the Fire Department has assured that only the staircase is affected and that the company in charge of its rehabilitation will be the one to restore it.

Of the total of 14 evicted from the property, only two have accepted to be accommodated by the Barcelona Emergency and Social Emergencies Center (CUESB) service, while the rest have chosen to do so in the homes of friends and relatives, as detailed. municipal sources.
