The Foment del Treball employers’ association has called for next Monday, the 13th, a meeting of the board of directors in which, in all probability, it will be decided to advance the holding of the presidential elections by a few months. The current president, Josep Sánchez Llibre, intends to stand for a second term, and it is expected that he will make it official shortly. Once the advance has been approved by the board of employers, the voting will be held within a month or month and a half, after the candidacies have been formalized.
In principle, Sánchez Llibre’s current mandate ended next November, the month in which he took office to replace Joaquim Gay de Montellà. Unlike what is expected now, Gay de Montellà preferred to wait until September to call the elections, after the summer break.
The will to call the elections was officially communicated yesterday to the 14 vice-presidents of Foment, who received the agenda of the next board of directors. Former deputy of Unió Democràtica and vice president of Conservas Dani, Sánchez Llibre was elected in 2018 with wide support as he was the only candidate.
