The first train from kyiv since the start of the war arrived this morning in Kherson, which had been occupied since early March by Russian troops until the recent withdrawal from this southern Ukrainian city.

“The first train from kyiv has arrived in Kherson since the beginning of the large-scale invasion by Russia,” reads the brief message on Facebook, accompanied by a video, from the Kherson city council and collected by the Ukrinform agency.

A member of the Kherson regional council, Serhiy Jlan, reported yesterday that the first train would leave that day at 10:14 p.m. from the capital and arrive in Kherson around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.

“About 200 passengers who have bought a ‘ticket to victory’ will go, the wagons have been painted by Ukrainian artists,” he said in a message on Facebook.

He indicated that the next trains will leave kyiv on even days and Kherson on odd days, while congratulating “all those who return home.”
