Under the motto Reinventing Cities for all, Smart City Expo Curitiba (SCECWB) will celebrate its 5th edition from tomorrow, March 20, until Friday, the 22nd, with the aim of promoting an inclusive urban transformation adapted to the needs of all citizens. .

The congress will bring together 180 speakers and 70 exhibitors at the Positivo Event Center of Parc Barigui, in the Brazilian city of Curitiba, in what will be the largest edition to date. This is the second of the eleven events that Fira de Barcelona will organize throughout 2024 abroad within the framework of its internationalization strategy.

The congress, promoted by the Curitiba City Council led by Mayor Rafael Greca and organized by Fira de Barcelona, ??iCities and the municipalities of Vale do Pinhão and Curitiba, consists of a conference program designed to address the main challenges faced cities, with a special focus on the problems of Latin American cities.

The presentations will be structured around seven thematic axes: Sustainable cities and climate change, Public space and urban renewal, Governance and digital citizens, Digital transformation and Innovation, Technology and disruptive business, and Tomorrow.Mobility.

Featured speakers include Brazilian urban artist Eduardo Kobra, known for works such as the 336-square-meter mural at the United Nations headquarters in New York; Mercedes de los Santos, project director of the Open Data Charter; Jorge Daza, Vice Minister of Transport and Telecommunications of Chile; and Livia Schaeffer Nonose, technology and innovation specialist at UN Habitat.

The congress, which follows the model of the Smart City Expo in Barcelona, ??will also have an exhibition area in which solutions and technologies capable of promoting and collaborating in sustainable urban transformation will be shown.

In its 2024 edition, the event has exhausted the available space with more than 70 confirmed exhibitors, including Arlequim, Intel, Intelbras, Ligga, the government of the Brazilian state of Paraná, Polkadot, Instituto das Cidades Inteligentes and Sebrae.

This edition of SCECWB hosts the first Brazilian Awards, awards intended to recognize initiatives and companies with outstanding projects in urban innovation in Brazil.

The city of Curitiba was named Smart City of 2023 in Barcelona during the Smart City Expo World Congress, the international summit on smart cities and urban solutions organized every year by Fira de Barcelona at the Gran Via de l’Hospitalet venue.

The congress will make a commitment to inclusivity and sustainability in the event itself. Thus, access to the facility will be adapted to people with motor, hearing and neurodivergence deficiencies. In addition, the organization will offset the emissions generated including the travel of attendees with the aim of becoming a zero-emissions event and 90% of the materials used during the celebration will be recycled.

SCECWB is the second of the fairs that Fira de Barcelona organizes outside of Spain in 2024. In total there will be 11 events organized by the fair institution abroad this year, including eight international editions of the Smart City Expo World Congress, in Riyadh ( United Arab Emirates), Curitiba (Brazil), New York (United States), Santiago del Estero (Argentina), Mérida (Mexico), Santiago de Chile (Chile), Bogotá (Colombia) and Doha (Qatar).

In addition, in 2024 the fourth edition of Food Cuba 2.0 will be held (May 21-23) and two international events will premiere: IOT Brasil (June 6-7) in São Paulo and Alimentaria China (September 19-21) in the city of Chengdu.
