June 19, 2014 will go down in history as the day of the proclamation of Felipe VI. This Monday, when the 9th anniversary is celebrated, Felipe and Letizia share the day with their counterparts Abdalah and Rania from Jordan who are making a working visit to Spain that takes place eight years after their previous trip to Madrid. The visit will once again allow the meeting between Letizia and Rania who, on the repeated occasions in which they have met in public, the last one at the coronation of Carlos III, in London, have become protagonists of duels of style and fashion .

Since its proclamation, the Kings have only celebrated the anniversary, in public, on three occasions (2015, 2019 and 2021), when the occasion was taken to shift the focus to different anonymous citizens whose civic behavior and social commitment earned them Civil Merit Medals.

The Kings offer, this Monday, a lunch to their guests at the Royal Palace with the assistance of members of the Government and representatives of the powers of the State. Before lunch, Letizia and Rania will visit the Workshop Schools that National Heritage has in the palace where young people are trained in trades related to heritage restoration, an area in which the Queen of Jordan has a special interest.

Meanwhile, Felipe VI and Abdallah II will hold a meeting to exchange impressions on the state of the bilateral relationship and other current international issues. Previously, the Jordanian monarch will hold a meeting in Moncloa with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. In the afternoon, the two kings will travel to Córdoba to attend a dinner at the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos on the occasion of the meeting that will be held on Tuesday by the group called the Aqaba Process, an initiative of Abdallah to work for peace in the Middle East. . The presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, is scheduled for the meeting.

The last time King Abdalá II and King Rania were in Spain was in November 2015, also as part of a working visit. In diplomatic language, the highest level is that of the state visit, in which the highest level of protocol is established to underline the relations between both countries; the work visit is understood as an official trip with an objective that does not necessarily require institutional contacts.

Felipe and Letizia have yet to visit Jordan as kings. They did it, still princes in 2011, during an official tour of the Middle East that also included Israel and Palestine. In May 2004, shortly after their wedding and at the start of their honeymoon, they made a private trip to Aqaba to attend the wedding of Prince Hamzah, son of the late King Hussein and Queen Nur. Just a few days ago, King Juan Carlos and King Sofia were in Amman to attend the wedding of Prince Hussein, the eldest son of Abdallah and Rania, with the young Saudi Rajwa al Said.
