Feijóo wanted to focus the electoral campaign on the economy, without forgetting other criticisms of Pedro Sánchez, but Bildu got in the way and the speech was diverted. And when at the beginning of the week, after the Abertzale formation decided to withdraw its candidates convicted of blood crimes, it wanted to recover its economic objective, the alleged cases of vote buying appeared first in Melilla and then in Mojácar or Murcia, and his words fell on deaf ears.
Today, on the last day of the campaign, the president of the PP wants to return to the economy, to tell how much he disagrees with the optimism of the Government, and its proposals for the future, which he wants to characterize his path to La Moncloa, in that Sunday’s results may be a first step, or lead you into a harsher reality than your data tells you.
That is why this Friday of the closing of the campaign, with a marathon day that takes him to three very important autonomous communities for the PP, the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid, Alberto Núñez Feijóo focused on the economy, leaving aside the latest controversies that have distorted the campaign, although they may have benefited the PP or punished the PSOE.
The framework also invited this, because a meeting at ten in the morning cannot be a meeting to use, and what the popular leader did, who had his first stop in Alicante, was an act with a large group of representatives of the hotel and restaurant sector, to whom he was able to speak only about the economy and the “complex moment” Spain is experiencing.
The drawing that he drew is totally opposite to that made by the Government due to “an exorbitant debt, a skyrocketing deficit, a hole in pensions and a labor market in which supply and demand do not match”, in addition to weak economic growth that It will bring great difficulties, especially since the European Union has warned Spain that it now has to start reducing spending by 9.4 billion euros.
Alberto Núñez Feijóo is very critical of the Government’s economic policy and more so of its spending, to which he added, he stressed, what many measures announced by Pedro Sánchez during the campaign will cost, such as “inviting the elderly to the movies on Tuesdays, or pay the interrail to all young people whatever their income”, something that he considers “political frivolity”, when Spain breaks debt records, 200 million every day, and already reaches one and a half billion euros, which generates about interest of 40,000 million euros per year.
The president of the PP also highlights, from the economic figures, that Spain is the only country in the European Union that has not recovered the GDP of 2019, and for this reason “there is no room for triumphalism” and neither can the bell be cast in employment flight, since of four unemployed Europeans, one is Spanish, Spain has twice the unemployment rate than the European average, and we are the second country in youth and female unemployment.
To this we must add, according to the leader of the PP, that the Government has raised 40 taxes in these years, for which it has collected 42,000 million euros, which it has dedicated to spending, and not to helping citizens. That is why it proposes alternatives, in many cases already known, such as the reduction of the personal income tax rate for families with incomes of less than 40,000 euros, to help them cope with the rise in food prices, which in the last two years have risen 25 percent, as well as lower VAT on meat, fish and preserves.
It also proposes agreeing with financial institutions on a fund to help pay mortgages for vulnerable families or who have problems coping with this expense, because it has risen 30 euros per month, and dedicating the 6,000 million that the Government has had in electricity surplus to pay the electricity debt, which in his opinion will automatically result in a drop in electricity for small consumers and electro-intensive companies.
And the section for which the president of the PP is most committed is the one dedicated to the self-employed, with financing of 80 euros in the self-employed quota for entrepreneurs who do not have an income that reaches the Minimum Interprofessional Wage, and a rate of 50 euros for young people under 25 years of age, who work while they study.
All to be able to say that “we are the party of economic activity, the party of entrepreneurs”, which in his opinion are essential for economic growth and for Spain to get ahead of the “complex” economic picture that lies ahead.
