One day after Pedro Sánchez announces whether he is leaving Moncloa, and with the PP shuffling and analyzing all possible scenarios, Alberto Núñez Feijóo has chosen today from Lleida to give a message in terms of the future. The leader of the popular party, campaigning in Catalonia, has tried to close the door to the president’s possible departures. “It doesn’t matter what he says. Sánchez will be forever marked by the decadence that he has brought to our country, he can stretch out the agony more or less, but he already represents the past,” he stressed.
The PP, therefore, tries to ensure that the period of reflection that Sánchez has given himself since Wednesday, when it was learned that Manos Médicas had filed a complaint against his wife, Begoña Gómez, does not serve to rearm the Socialist Party. Núñez Feijóo has described this Saturday’s demonstration on Ferraz Street in support of the president as a “self-organized” event. And he has highlighted that it is the PP that represents “the political future of Spain.” For this reason, he has indicated that it is up to him to ensure this future of the country “with the help of everyone.”
It is in this near-future scenario that Feijóo wants to place himself, pointing out, on the one hand, that what Sánchez’s “maneuver” wants is to separate the Spaniards. And presenting, on the other hand, the PP project as the only one capable of “tearing down the walls and returning to the fraternal embrace.”
The PP and Feijóo have maintained the pace of the Catalan campaign, over which the shadow of Sánchez’s decision looms, and from Lleida the candidate Alejandro Fernández has also accused the president of abandoning himself to “low passions and political polarization.” . The president and Carles Puigdemont have once again been presented as politicians who only look at the “navel”, with “personalist” projects and inability to make a reading that welcomes the entire society.
The popular Catalans have held a rally in Lleida with 600 people, a mobilization that they have not achieved for a decade and with which they try to regain representation in the Parliament. In this context, Núñez Feijóo has specifically addressed all Catalans who in 2017 voted for Ciudadanos – which obtained 36 seats – to support the PP, in a “committed reformist project, the common house.
