After the publication of Pedro Sánchez’s letter to the citizens, the PP has maintained the tone of its criticism of the President of the Government and, far from relaxing the fight that it maintains throughout the legislature, it has once again asked him for explanations for the business of his wife. In an interview on Onda Cero, Alberto Núñez Feijóo has accused Pedro Sánchez of abandoning his duties, victimizing himself and polarizing Spanish society in the face of the Catalan and European elections.
The president of the PP believes that there is no precedent for a European prime minister to send a letter to the citizens to say that he is going to think in the coming days about what he is going to do and holding the opposition responsible for what the judges, who are investigating, are the alleged irregular activities of the wife of the President of the Government, Begoña Gómez.
The PP opposition is “sensible”, insisted Feijóo, who has accused Sánchez of “muddying up” political life to mobilize his party in the electoral race. “This is unprecedented and we are already in the international press,” said the opposition leader, who regretted that he and his partner had been “slandered” by the blue bench without anyone in the Government apologizing. .
“I am interested in clean politics. It is a delicate issue, I don’t like calling the president’s wife to a commission of inquiry. What Sánchez intends is to equate me with his way of doing politics, but we are very different. In the mud he beats me him,” said Feijóo, who has denied that he is keeping an ace up his sleeve with the appearance of Begoña Gómez: “I’m going to try to avoid it.”
“My wife would not do it. She would not contract with the public administration. I would not allow it. Many presidents’ wives have stopped working so as not to have any doubts about it,” said Feijóo, who added: “That the president of your country, no one believes it, not even his closest circle, because he changes his mind continually, it is very serious.
“Instead of disappearing for five days, the president must appear urgently to give a reasoned explanation of the scandals surrounding his party, his Government and his partner,” the general secretary of the PP had stated before the interview with Feijóo. , Cuca Gamarra.
Gamarra emphasizes that Sánchez “has dedicated four pages to writing the words “right and extreme right” 14 times but “zero lines to give an explanation” about the investigations initiated by the Civil Guard, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the National Court, which were known in the month of February and which have led to the opening of proceedings in a Madrid court at the request of the far-right union Hands Cleans.
From the PP they regret that “silence and not transparency is the path chosen by Sánchez, especially taking into account the standards of exemplarity that he wanted to apply to people in situations much more dignified than his.”
For Gamarra, Sánchez is betting on “victimization and pity instead of accountability and clarity.” Monday’s press conference, he maintains, will be “an electoral campaign act” by the president of the Government and leader of the PSOE, “in which he will try to make visible that he is a victim and not a leading actor in episodes that are marking the international image of Spain”.
“We emphasize that Sánchez’s problem is not one or another complaint, but the proceedings opened by judicial bodies. His problem is not only political, it is a fundamentally judicial problem,” says the PP deputy, who also regrets that the president “find in the facts known in recent months a new way to deepen the division and polarization”, his personal “brand”, he assures.
