Faith Kipyegon breaks the 5,000 m world record a week after the 1,500

The Kenyan athlete Faith Kipyegon has added her second world record in the last seven days this Friday, now in the 5,000 meters, by winning the meeting in Paris, the fourth meeting of the Diamond League, with a time of 14:05:20.

Last Friday Kipyegon became the first woman in history to drop below the 3m50 barrier in the legendary distance of 1,500 meters, with a record of 3m49s11 in Florence.

The 5,000 mark had been held since October 2020 by the Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey, with a time that Kipyegon has lowered by 1.42 seconds.

On the other hand, the Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen, current Olympic champion in the 1,500 meters, set a new world record for the two miles, winning the distance in the same Parisian event of the Diamond League with a time of 7m54s10.

Ingebrigtsen, 22, lowered the previous world record, held by Kenyan Daniel Komen since July 1997, by 4.51 seconds.
