Can you imagine having a huge boat for at least 44 people staying in 22 luxurious suites that also has a fun flying airship to enjoy the most incredible landscapes from above? Well, this is precisely what has been projected by one of the most prestigious design studios in the superyacht sector, Lazzarini Design, which in recent years has also been specializing in flying vehicles.
There are many amazing boats with all kinds of eccentricities, but none like the Colossea, the latest whim of Pierpaolo Lazzarini and his team. It is the largest megayacht in the world that, with a length of 204 meters, combines every type of luxury imaginable with the ability to function as a floating dock for a large airship or zeppelin.
The airship is a modern interpretation of the iconic Norge, which starred in the first expedition to the North Pole departing on May 12, 1926. The creation of Roald Amundsen and Lincoln Ellsworth was piloted by Captain Umberto Nobile at a time when the dream of flying of humanity was just beginning.
The renewed version of the Norge zeppelin adapts to current needs and incorporates the latest in technology. Its fuselage is made entirely of carbon fiber, it has a payload of 10 tons and can accommodate 24 passengers and 10 crew members.
It is a very luxurious “toy” and a practical exploration vehicle docked in the Colossea and that can take off at any time. Not only would it be able to transport passengers to dry land, even in remote areas that the megayacht would not have access to, but it could also function as a primary means of transportation for extended periods.
The airship is powered by 8 electric motors and consists of several compartments that hide the batteries and liquid hydrogen tanks (LH2). The roof of the aircraft is covered in solar panels to power internal resources, but the engines run on hydrogen and are capable of reaching a maximum speed of 90 knots (167 km/h).
Leaving the airship aside, it should be noted that the propulsion of the megayacht comes from 4 HTS engines that allow it to achieve a maximum speed of 22 knots (41 km/h). There is also the possibility of using the airship’s propellers for a more efficient navigation experience. To operate this colossus, 20 crew members would be needed, who would also have their respective cabins, apart from those intended for passengers.
The Colossea megayacht also has sophisticated features: from an immense helipad and a large pool in the bow with a waterfall, to a garage full of vehicles of all kinds, such as cars, jet skis, kayaks or bicycles. Given the immensity of the boat, it could also include movie theaters, a wine cellar, several spas, restaurants, a party room, etc.
The Colossea is just a digital prototype, although Lazzarini aims to get the attention of Elon Musk for the project or anyone who wants to invest money in it. For now, we can enjoy this new technological marvel in the presentation video that illustrates this article.
