The great promise of French trail running, Esteban Olivero, has been found dead at 2,500 meters above sea level, in the Écrins National Park, in the Hautes Alpes. The young man, only 22 years old, disappeared while he was ski touring on the 23rd and then began a rescue operation that ended with the worst news.

Olivero had reached the summit of La Blanche and suffered a fatal fall during the descent. One of his colleagues alerted the emergency teams of his disappearance and a rescue operation was activated, made difficult by the weather conditions, which made it impossible for helicopters to operate.

This Tuesday, finally, the operation found the young man, who was dead at 2,500 meters above sea level.

The Excellence ski mountaineering group has shared an emotional tribute on its Facebook profile: “We have lost an exemplary climbing partner, but above all a friend. In these difficult times, it was difficult to find the words… Obviously we had have to count on him to liven up the moments of rest in the shelter with his smile”.
