ERC suggests that the changes in the Amnesty law are minimal: “The margin is small”

The Justice commission is set for this Thursday, March 7 and everything indicates that the PSOE, Junts and ERC will arrive with an agreement under their arm so that next week the Amnesty law will be approved in the plenary session of Congress. The negotiations are proceeding in the right direction for their interests. The three actors have a working document that is missing the last details. The Republicans reported this this afternoon and spokesperson Raquel Sans stated that “positions are coming closer” on a text in which she has implied that the changes will be minimal.

“We are optimistic about having this Amnesty law approved,” added Sans. The Esquerra leader has assured that her party is having two-way talks: with the PSOE, on the one hand, and with Junts on the other.

Republicans do not publicly detail what changes there will be in the text. However, no substantial changes are expected. Yes minor changes:. “The room for maneuver is limited…” Sans responded when asked if the document is significantly altered. In fact, after Junts rejected the rule of criminal oblivion on January 30 in the plenary session of Congress, the regulation only allows modifications according to the current amendments already planned in advance. Likewise, the option of a landing strip for JxCat outside the law, whether modifying the crime of terrorism in the Penal Code or limiting extensions in judicial intrusions, seems ruled out.

The ERC spokesperson has implied that the law will pass the filters of European justice and has insisted today that it should be ready as soon as possible, “because there are many people whose lives are bogged down.” He has given as an example Josep Maria Jove and Lluís Salvadó, president of the Republican parliamentary group and president of the Port of Barcelona, ??respectively, who are considered the architects of 1-O and are awaiting trial in the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC). starting April 10 together with the Minister of Culture, Natàlia Garriga.

“These are trials that will start and that should not start with an Amnesty law whose margin for modifications is limited,” Sans stressed. “That the Amnesty law be approved and applied,” he wished, before remembering that ERC has been working with a criminal oversight rule since before presenting a proposal in Congress in 2021.
