Once Badalona has entered the pre-emergency phase due to drought, which limits water consumption to 210 liters per inhabitant per day. The municipal group of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) has launched a proposal to join forces in the face of this crisis, incorporating civil society and the political class in a great city pact.

The Republicans remember that with the arrival of a dry winter, as foreseen in the medium and long-term forecasts, the Generalitat government has launched a pre-emergency plan in 202 municipalities, including Badalona. This plan, which was not initially contemplated in the Sequera Plan, establishes temporary and agreed adaptation measures before declaring an official emergency.

These measures include a limitation of 210 liters per inhabitant per day throughout the municipality, covering both domestic and economic and commercial activities. However, this maximum consumption is an average for each location, leaving each city to decide how to distribute it among the various activities.

With this pre-emergency plan and the unfavorable forecasts for the coming months, Esquerra Republicana proposes the creation of the Pact for La Sequera in Badalona. This pact would bring together parties and members of civil society to monitor the emergency, agree on measures or even adopt additional measures to reduce water consumption in our city. Furthermore, Republicans believe that the Badalona government should be more active in informing citizens about the current situation.

Since July 2020, Catalonia has been experiencing a worrying drought situation. In these three years, each month has recorded a negative anomaly in precipitation. This lack of rain has reduced the reserves of the reservoirs in the basins that supply water to Badalona, ??leaving them only around 18% of their capacity currently.

Alex Montornès, president of the Municipal Group of Esquerra Republicana in Badalona, ??points out that “the pandemic marked the previous mandate. In the coming months we will face a critical situation due to the drought” which, if it does not rain, will mean having to take unpopular measures. For this reason, the Republican spokesperson points out “it is essential that political parties and civil society work together to overcome these difficult moments” and emphasizes the importance of there being a better explanation from the Badalona government, which complements the action of the Generalitat. of Catalonia.
