The number one of the Esquerra Republicana coalition with EH Bildu, the Galician Nationalist Bloc and Més per Mallorca, the already MEP Diana Riba, has made this Tuesday a call for mobilization in the European elections of June 9 to prevent there from being a extreme right majority in community institutions.

The republican leader has spoken in this sense at an event in Barcelona, in the presentation of a manifesto in which the four formations that make up the Ara Repúbliques coalition add the support of other smaller forces from Catalonia, the Canary Islands, Galicia, Asturias and the Valencian Community. These are Ahora Canarias, Puyalon, Anova, Andecha Astur, Comunistes de Catalunya, Esquerra Unida i Alternativa i Esquerra Valenciana.

In the presentation of the manifesto, Riba warned that conservative and ultra groups “seek to win and obtain profits” in “difficult times” like the current one. “What we have to do is fill the ballot boxes more than ever,” stated the ERC leader, who is committed to “the defense of social and labor rights” and to “a model of solidarity, feminist, open, ecological and democratic.” “To conquer all our rights as individuals and as a people,” she concluded.

Esquerra, although it leads the Ara Republiques coalition, faces the 9-J elections in a complicated situation. The party suffered a setback and lost 13 seats in the Catalan elections of May 12 and in the last week some of its leaders, such as the acting president Pere Aragonès, who is the national coordinator of the party, one of his close collaborators, Sergi Sabrià, and the general secretary, Marta Rovira, have announced that they are ending their time on the political front line. The president of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, on the other hand, will leave his position after the European elections to try to revalidate his leadership at the autumn congress.

On the other side of the scale are Bildu and BNG, which in 2024, in regional elections, have traded higher and have improved their numbers and have consolidated themselves as the second force.
