Eleven members of Jorge Vilda's coaching staff resign in protest of the Rubiales case

Far from finding more support, Luis Rubiales is seeing how his speech in Las Rozas, where he defended his version of the kiss to Jenni Hermoso and declined to step aside, has led to the resignation of eleven members of Jorge’s coaching staff just a few hours later. Vilda “before the unacceptable attitudes and statements made by the top leader.”

“The undersigned express their firmest and most emphatic condemnation of the conduct shown by the President of the Federation”, begins the statement headed by the assistant coach of the senior team, Montse Tomé and also signed by Javier Lerga, Eugenio Gonzalo, Blanca Romero, Carlos Sánchez, Rubén Jiménez, Sonia Bermúdez, Javier Velázquez, Javier Egido, Ander Ruiz and Elena Fernández.

“This part of the technical team supports the player Jennifer Hermoso”, they point out in a letter where they “endorsed the version offered” by the Madrid striker, who denounced having felt “victim of aggression” when being kissed by the leader. For her part, the Federation has defended in two statements that the soccer player is lying.

In the text they also reveal the “discomfort of having to necessarily attend the assembly”, where “several of the female members of the technical staff were forced to stand in the front row, exposing their image and trying to make society understand and players, who shared the president’s theses”.

In addition, the dissidents express “their support for the statement published by the players of the Absolute Women’s Soccer Team”, signed by 77 soccer players, including the world champions, where they make it clear that they will not return to the national team as long as there are no structural changes and no Others are in charge. “It’s over”, was the unanimous cry of the soccer players, now also from the coaching staff.

The eleven members of the coaching staff also assume their “share of responsibility” regarding “the restructuring and professionalization of the absolute women’s team”, an objective for which they have always “worked with the greatest motivation and professionalism”.

This is the full text of the eleven members of the coaching staff who have resigned:

As a result of the events that occurred after the final of the Women’s Soccer World Cup, part of the Women’s Soccer Team wants to make its position public through the following points

1 The undersigned express their firmest and most emphatic condemnation of the conduct shown by the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Manuel Rubiales Béjar, with the player of the National Women’s National Team, Jennifer Hermoso.

2 After the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, which took place on August 25, 2023, in which the president of the RFEF did not present his resignation and in which he offered a story that in no way reflects What was felt by the aforementioned player, who has expressly stated that she felt “victim of aggression”, this part of the Technical Team supports the player Jennifer Hermoso, endorsing the version offered by her. Adding the inconvenience of having to attend the aforementioned assembly on August 25, in which, in addition, an especially hurtful event occurred for this technical body, since several of the female members of the technical staff were forced to wear in the front row, exposing his image and trying to make society and players understand that they shared the theses of the president of the RFEF.

3 For all these reasons, the undersigned, in light of the unacceptable attitudes and statements made by the top leader of the RFEF, have made the decision to place their positions at the disposal of the RFEF.

4 This part of the Technical Team shows its support for the statement published by the players of the Women’s National Soccer Team, in reference to said actions and statements made by the president of the RFEF and more specifically to the public statements made by the player Jenni Beautiful.

5 We, the undersigned, want to finish this communiqué by accepting the part of responsibility that falls to us regarding the restructuring and professionalization of the Absolute Women’s National Team, a task for which we have always worked with the greatest of motivations and professionalism.
