The artichoke is the star product of the Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat. But in the last major agricultural stronghold of the Barcelona metropolitan area, many more local foods are grown. One of them is calçot. From now on, those created by the Prat Agricultural Cooperative will have a quality seal. This was reported by the cooperative itself this Friday through a statement.

“This is a strategy to position and identify this excellent kilometer zero product from the rest of the calçots that reach the market,” the company has argued. “At the cooperative we consider that the differentiation of the short-sales circuit product that our farmers are betting on should be made easier for the consumer,” he added.

Together with the Espigoladors social entity, the Prat Agricultural Cooperative markets a calçots cream made with last year’s surpluses. “We want to fight against food waste in this way,” they said.
