New details about the case of Daniel Sancho in Thailand. A little less than a month before the trial against the Spaniard for the murder and dismemberment of Edwin Arrieta is held, the victim’s family will demand civil liability compensation of 410,000 euros from the young man before the Thai Justice. This was reported this Friday by the EFE agency from Bangkok.
It was at the beginning of August 2023 when this case came to light. At that time, Arrieta’s body was found on the Thai island of Koh Pha Ngan. Immediately, Rodolfo Sancho’s son ended up becoming the main suspect of the Thai authorities, but in the end it was he himself who ended up confessing to the crime. Precisely, in the last few hours the Spaniard became news after appearing “sure” of his “acquittal” because he had acted in “self-defense.”
”I am convinced that they are going to acquit me because it will be proven that it was self-defense,” the Spanish chef declared to EFE in the last few hours, after being asked about the possibility of being sentenced to capital punishment. In addition to being accused of premeditated murder, the 29-year-old faces the following charges: concealment of the body and destruction of other people’s documentation.
This Friday, it has come to light that the victim’s family will demand a large amount of money from the young man. According to the claim, to which EFE has had access, Arrieta’s parents and sister, Ana Marcela Artega, Leovaldo José Arrieta and Darling Arrieta Artega, demand the amount of 410,000 euros as civil liability for the murder of the 44-year-old surgeon. years last August 3.
The document explains that the amount was stipulated after assessing, among other factors, that the surgeon had an income of 30,000 euros per year and that his parents depended on his salary, to whom he provided 900 euros per month for their expenses and who “since his death have been left in a situation of poverty.” “The parents’ health was optimal until the death of their son, and is currently worsening with depressive symptoms, anxiety and terror that make them get sick frequently and require medical treatment,” the document states.
The claim evaluates the expenses of procedural representation of the Arrieta family and the repatriation of their mortal remains to Colombia at 79,200 euros. On the other hand, it is specified that the deceased was 44 years old at the time of his “brutal murder”, so he had a working life of 18 years left, and that the life expectancy of men in Colombia is 73 years, so that he could still “live an average of 29 years.”
Arrieta’s family will be present at the trial against Sancho as a co-accusation through Thai lawyers. The surgeon’s parents plan to testify at the trial, which will take place from April 9 to May 3 in a court in Samui, although their lawyers have requested that they do so by videoconference. The Thai Prosecutor’s Office accuses Sancho, 29, of premeditated murder. We will have to wait to know what his sentence and the judges’ decision will finally be.
