Edmundo Bal announces his candidacy to contest the leadership of Ciudadanos

The deputy spokesman for the Ciudadanos parliamentary group, Edmundo Bal, announced this Friday that he is presenting his candidacy to lead the refoundation of the party “together with its militants and affiliates” but has not clarified whether it will be to head the General Secretariat, an executive position within of the new two-headed structure approved by the executive.

Bal has announced her candidacy to the media in Congress, coinciding with the first day of Open Doors in the Lower House, and has indicated that “she is not going against Inés Arrimadas”, who could present herself later to be a Ciudadanos candidate for the general elections and it will be responsible for political action.

In his statements, Bal has stressed that he has spoken with Arrimadas that “it would fit” in his project and has insisted on leading the re-founding of Ciudadanos “together with its militants.”

However, Bal’s candidacy will have to be endorsed at the next extraordinary assembly to be held by Ciudadanos in January, as will the new structure that was approved on November 26.

The Ciudadanos executive unanimously approved a new model that separates organic functions from policies through a “ticket” made up of a general secretary, in charge of distributing organic tasks, and a national spokesperson, who would be responsible for political action. Both positions are presented together leading the candidacy that must be endorsed in the next Party Assembly scheduled for next year.
