The British low-cost airline Easyjet has announced this Wednesday the opening of a new seasonal base at the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport in the spring of 2024, where it will base three aircraft.

As reported by Easyjet, it will be the airline’s fourth base in Spain and will allow the creation of around 100 direct jobs between pilots and crew.

The new seasonal base will have 3 A320 family aircraft based at the international aerodrome on the Mediterranean coast, each with a capacity to transport 186 passengers.

The possibilities provided by having a base, added to the good evolution of travel demand, allow the airline to estimate a capacity of 1.62 million seats offered for the summer season of 2024, the first based on El Altet airport.

This represents a growth of 16% compared to the current 2023 summer season, in which Easyjet has 1.4 million seats offered through 11 routes to destinations such as Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Geneva or Basel, among others.

This announcement confirms the airline’s commitment to Spain and the seasonal base model, a format that allows it to strengthen existing markets and create new flows according to the options most demanded by customers, as well as contributing to local employment in a key season .

Alicante thus joins the airline’s seasonal bases in Palma de Mallorca (2017) and Malaga (2021), three strategic summer destinations for the airline and the most popular in the Easyjet destination network in Spain along with Barcelona.
