Doesn’t it hurt you? is the message that the Generalitat Valenciana has chosen in the campaign for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to encourage victims, family and friends to “report and bring their situation of violence to the attention of professionals”, because The complaint “saves lives.”

This was explained this Wednesday by the vice president and councilor of social services, Susana Camarero, who assured that the message also seeks the complicity of the population in general and the youngest, in particular, with the idea of ??conveying that sexist violence ” It has to hurt all of us.”

As Camarero explained, the Valencian Government believes that the fight against sexist violence “is a State issue in which unity must prevail, in which it is necessary that society and also political parties have, as their sole objective, to help the victims and their daughters and sons to escape the spiral of violence, because it is possible to do so.

The campaign uses four messages with data and figures related to this violence: “That 80% of murders of women occur without prior complaint; that less than 2% of the complaints are from relatives and friends of the abused women; that During 2023, more than 52 women have been murdered, 5 of them in the Valencian Community and many women continue to feel that they have some responsibility for the mistreatment they receive, ‘Doesn’t it hurt you?’ ”.

This year, for the first time, the campaign posters have been prepared, in addition to Valencian and Spanish, in English. As the second vice president has indicated, it has been detected that many victims are foreigners and it has been taken into account that there are large areas in the Valencian Community, such as Las Marinas and Vega Baja, or in universities where there are foreign residents and students, Therefore, it is “essential” to make known the available resources and raise awareness among the youngest.

On the other hand, Camarero like, within the awareness and prevention policies, this year the first edition of awards will be held that will recognize “people and entities that have stood out in their career in the fight against violence against women.”

Together with the Ministry, representatives of the councils of Valencia, Castellón and Alicante, as well as the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, have deliberated to decide which people and institutions could be worthy of recognition.

The winners, who will be announced next week, will be given the work The Infinite Embrace, created especially for this occasion by the Valencian artist Vicente Marzal, a Valencian painter and sculptor who, despite his youth, already has a recognized prestige and that has made its way by normalizing a disability and breaking barriers.

The painting, explained Susana Camarero, “is a tribute to the woman, to the woman herself, but also to the fighting woman, to the woman who suffers, to a woman who is supported, helped and welcomed by society in their difficult moments, and also to their daughters and sons who suffer violence like them.
