The Mossos d’Esquadra have dismantled four floors that functioned as drug sales points in the Barcelona Free Zone and have arrested 12 people who ran them. As reported in a police statement, the “bunkers” operated 24 hours a day and had all kinds of security measures to prevent theft and avoid police intervention: cremation forges to dispose of drugs and money, armored doors with plates steel, triple and double access doors, windows with steel cross bars and iron and video surveillance systems.

The detainees are all men between the ages of 30 and 60 and are accused of drug trafficking and belonging to a criminal group.

The investigation by the Mossos d’Esquadra was carried out in four phases, and entries and inquiries were made in the different buildings on July 12, 17 and 20, and on August 9. The balance of the operation, in addition to the 12 detainees, includes five entries and investigations, four in the Sant-Montjuïc district and one in Sant Martí, and the intervention of 2,000 euros, cocaine, hashish, crack, weighing utensils and 4 forges to melt metal to get rid of drugs and money.

According to the Mossos, the group not only sold cocaine locally, but also included people throughout the city of Barcelona and its metropolitan area. And both regular customers and occasional weekenders.

The recruitment of potential customers, between the ages of 25 and 70, was carried out with the well-known pointers or water carriers. These directed them to the apartments according to the amount of drugs that were available at the point of sale at that precise moment. They also accompanied them to the place of departure so that the drugs were not seized by the police. Likewise, they controlled the movements of the agents to warn of possible actions on the site and prevent the arrest of other perpetrators.
